According to the estimate, Spain will then host about 110 million international tourists per year, compared to about 105 million in France. The forecast is already beginning to materialize: in 2025, Spain recorded a new record with 97 million foreign tourists, who spent about 135 billion euros in the country. This is a jump from about 84 million visitors in 2023. France still holds the top spot with 102 million tourists in 2025, having benefited from an additional influx of visitors following the Olympic Games in Paris. The success also brings challenges: the increase in visitors has intensified the debate over overtourism, with residents in Barcelona, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands warning of crowding, strain on public services, and a sharp rise in housing prices. Various regions in Spain have already begun to restrict short-term rentals and manage crowds at popular sites.
