Magal, who was a military and political correspondent at the time and closely covered the preparations, protests, and evacuation, reacted with fury: "What a disaster this bunch of morons brought upon us, we will not forget and we will not forgive." The remarks were posted in a tweet ahead of the 21st anniversary of the disengagement. Magal described the evacuation as one of the hardest nights of his life and noted that he continues to identify with the pain of the evacuees and supports renewed settlement in the Gaza Strip. Just a day earlier, he received the title "Darling of Gush Katif" at the Gush Katif Museum in Jerusalem, declaring: "This memory and this act will return. In the end, there will be Jewish settlement in every place promised to us."
