Broke a baby's arm: Tel Aviv daycare nanny goes on trial

On Monday, August 3, the prosecution filed indictments against the owner of the private daycare 'Hiyukhim' in Tel Aviv, Natalie Shahar, and her two assistants, Ortal Levi and Ronit Shira Ariel. They are charged with numerous episodes of assault and abuse of young wards. The investigation was prompted by a broken arm in a one-year-old child, which, according to the prosecution, was caused by Levi, who twisted the child's arm during swaddling. The child was taken to Ichilov Hospital, where a cast was applied. Levi denies guilt. Shahar is accused of ignoring parents' reports of injuries and of abusing the wards herself. Ariel is also accused of force-feeding children. The prosecution notes that the staff's actions caused physical and psychological harm to the children. The daycare operated without a license. The cases will be heard in Tel Aviv courts.
