Brig. Gen. Warns Israel Against North Korean Model: 'We Won't Become Super-Sparta'

Reserve Brig. Gen. Asaf Orion warns at the National Security Conference against personal dependence on the US, calls for diversifying alliances, and cautions against the illusion of independence in weapons production in the North Korean style.

Reserve Brig. Gen. Asaf Orion, a senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), warned at the ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth National Security Conference against the dangers of total reliance on the US, especially personal dependence on the president. According to him, 'The more dependent we are, the more uncertain the future of this support.' He called for diversifying alliances, particularly with Europe, and cautioned against the call for independence in weapons production: 'You cannot adopt a North Korean model where we eat olives and pita and have a glorious military industry.' Orion presented a five-step plan: reexamining the security concept, managing the campaign, rehabilitating relations with the US, diversifying alliances, and changing the approach toward Washington. He emphasized that 'the worst thing about fighting with allies is fighting without them.'
