Beyond Disability: The Student Who Sold Baked Goods and Fulfilled Her Dream

Chen, a student with a disability participating in the integration program of the Shkal association and the 'Emunah' Academic College for Arts and Design in Jerusalem, in collaboration with the Ministry of Welfare, established an independent baked goods business in the heart of the campus. Behind the initiative were two dreams: the desire to be independent and earn money on her own, and the dream of celebrating a big birthday with her favorite star. Chen, who recalled a pastry course she took years ago, raised the idea in an art class and in conversations with Rachel Krispin, the program coordinator, who guided her. She began baking at home in the afternoons and bringing the pastries to the college, where the basket quickly emptied. Chen speaks of the emotional support she received from Krispin, who believed in her skills and helped her persevere. Next year, Chen will receive an official academic 'teaching assistant' certificate, which for her is confirmation of the path she has taken.
