Between Declarations and Reality: After the Peace Council Agreement, Who Really Controls Gaza?
Ten months after the ceasefire, Trump announced a historic agreement to disarm Hamas, but the reality on the ground is far from the declarations. In the new episode of "Ad HaKatzé," Elior Levy and Dr. Michael Milshtein analyzed the agreement formulated by the Peace Council, Israel's satisfaction, and the actual control over the Strip. Levy argued that Hamas speaks in two languages and places its men at critical junctions, and Milshtein added that the battered and trampled Hamas still controls everything, and that instead of a realistic discourse, we got fantasies about its annihilation.
Ten months after the ceasefire, US President Donald Trump announced a historic agreement to disarm Hamas in Gaza, but the reality on the ground is far from the grand declarations. In the new episode of "Ad HaKatzé," they tried to understand what lies behind the agreement formulated by the Peace Council, whether Israel is satisfied with what was agreed, and who currently controls the Strip. Head of the Palestinian Affairs desk at Kan News, Elior Levy, and Head of the Forum for Palestinian Studies at the Moshe Dayan Center, Dr. Michael Milshtein, explained what the Palestinian daily life in Gaza looks like, and where Israel failed in the negotiations. "What Hamas is doing here is speaking in two languages," Levy described. "It placed its people at those critical junctions so that even if a minister with no connection to Hamas stands above, Hamas will still have control from bottom to top." Dr. Milshtein added: "In this small space, to the astonishment and sorrow of Israel, the one who sets the tone and controls everything, everything, is still this battered, trampled Hamas. Instead of a realistic discourse, which, by the way, could have created much less sourness in the Israeli public, we got fantasies about the annihilation of Hamas."
