Ben-Gvir unveils hanging facility, viewing booths for terrorists in Israeli prison
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir announced the construction of a hanging facility for convicted terrorists within a death row wing in central Israel, including viewing booths for victims' families. He appointed six bereaved family members as inspectors under the Death Penalty for Terrorists Law, passed in March. Israeli-Arab lawmakers are challenging the law's constitutionality in a High Court petition.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir announced on Tuesday that an execution facility for hanging convicted terrorists is being built within an already-constructed death row prisoner wing in central Israel. The announcement, made by his office, includes plans for viewing booths that would allow terror victims and their families to witness the hangings, with visitor permits available for bereaved families. Ben-Gvir stated, "I promised to worsen the conditions of terrorists in prisons - we kept it," and emphasized, "Our terrorists deserve only one thing - death by hanging." In June, he appointed six bereaved family members from the Choosing Life Forum as official inspectors under the Death Penalty for Terrorists Law, which was passed by the Knesset plenum in March and later added to the West Bank's security regulations by IDF Central Command chief Maj.-Gen. Avi Bluth in May. The inspectors will oversee the conditions of those given death sentences. Earlier in June, several Israeli-Arab lawmakers sought to join a petition against the law, filed with the High Court of Justice in April, claiming it is unconstitutional and discriminates against Palestinians.
