About 9,500 Palestinian prisoners are held in Israeli prisons, including 94 women and more than 350 children.

Ben Gvir asked the prisoner, through an interpreter, about her condition in prison, and she replied that she was not well, that she had become depressed, and that her psychological state had deteriorated. Then he asked her boastfully and with arrogance: 'How are the detention conditions here?', and she said: 'There is no good food, or clean water, or anything.' Ben Gvir replied: 'The food should not be good, this is not a hotel, and whoever does things must think about their consequences. Whoever commits a crime must learn, especially if it is against the people of Israel.' He added, addressing the prisoner: 'This is not a hotel, it used to be, but it is no longer, you must think about your deed.' Since he took office in late 2022, Ben Gvir has deliberately tightened the detention conditions of Palestinian prisoners, including following a policy of starvation, medical neglect, as well as torture and isolation. About 9,500 Palestinian prisoners are held in Israeli prisons, including 94 women and more than 350 children, who suffer from starvation, torture, and medical neglect, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights reports.
