Avraham Hadi is the suspect in smashing News 12 doors and the threatening letter

The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court extended by four days the detention of Avraham Hadi, a Ramat Gan resident in his 40s, suspected of throwing bricks at the entrance door of News 12 offices and leaving a threatening letter against staff. The police requested 12 days, but Judge Ro'i Peri partially granted the request. Hadi is also suspected of additional vandalism incidents against media outlets and public figures.

The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court extended today (Friday) by four days the detention of Avraham Hadi, a Ramat Gan resident in his 40s, suspected of throwing bricks at the entrance door of News 12 offices and leaving a threatening letter against staff. The police requested a 12-day extension, but Judge Ro'i Peri partially granted the request. In his decision, the judge stated that at this stage there is reasonable suspicion that Hadi committed the attributed offenses, including threats, property damage, and obstruction of justice. He also stated that there is a concern of tampering with the investigation and danger posed by the suspect. According to the suspicion, on the night between Monday and Tuesday, Hadi threw bricks at the entrance door of News 12 offices in Tel Aviv, smashed it, and fled. Near the entrance, a letter was found stating: "Until you apologize for the Sde Teiman affair, I won't stop. Next time the brick will be aimed at one of your heads... Too bad, because in the end someone will die." The letter also included the names of public figures, former and current officials, and additional media outlets, along with the statement: "God's justice will be exacted from all of you." The investigation was conducted by the Central Unit of the Tel Aviv District, the Ayalon Crime Fighting Unit, and the Shin Bet. The police attribute to him several incidents of property damage against media outlets and public figures, and are checking if he was also involved in smashing windows at News 12 and Haaretz offices and spraying a threatening graffiti at News 13 offices. The police representative said in the hearing that the investigation includes many actions, some of which could be disrupted if Hadi is released. The judge noted that the danger attributed to him is reinforced by his October 2024 conviction for assault, assault causing actual bodily harm, and defacing property. Hadi denied the suspicions and claimed he suffers from a severe limitation in his left hand due to plates implanted in it. According to him, he can only use the hand to a limited extent and can "only smoke a cigarette with it." Hadi's defense attorney, Adv. Eran Amrani, requested his release to house arrest at his parents' home. He said, "Even if the police's claims are fully accepted, the acts should be seen as an expression of protest, not an attempt to harm people." He added that the acts were carried out at night to avoid meeting people and physical harm, and argued that the evidence and findings needed for the investigation have already been seized, so there is no justification for continued detention.
