Avi Nesher to open Haifa Film Festival - and receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Director Avi Nesher's new film, "Our Loves," has been chosen to open the 42nd Haifa International Film Festival. At the opening ceremony, Nesher will receive the festival's Lifetime Achievement Award for cinematic excellence and outstanding contribution to Israeli culture. The film, inspired by true events, follows seven characters whose relationships intertwine against the backdrop of the October 7 massacre. The film stars Shalom Michaelshvili, Maggie Azarzar, Yaniv Biton, Hadas Yaron, and Evelyn Hagoel. The screening in Haifa will follow the film's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it was selected for the prestigious "Centrepiece" program. In Israel, the film has been recognized by the Israeli Academy of Film and Television with 12 Ophir Award nominations, including Best Feature Film. Yaron Shamir, the festival's artistic director, stated that the film offers "a look at the pain we all experienced, but also offers hope, compassion, and a possibility for healing." The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Haifa Municipality, and other government ministries.
