Attorney General to High Court: Continued Funding for Haredi Education Conditional on Core Studies

The Attorney General responded to the High Court that continued funding for Haredi education will be conditional on full core studies and other basic requirements, starting this school year. The Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, responded today (Friday) to a petition filed by the 'Yesh Atid' party to the High Court regarding the funding of Haredi education. In its response, the state determined that continued receipt of funding under the 'All Children of Israel' principle will be conditional on meeting basic requirements, including full core studies, employing teaching staff with appropriate training, participating in measurement and evaluation systems, cooperating with supervision and enforcement mechanisms, and meeting reporting obligations. These requirements will apply already in the current school year. The 'Yesh Atid' party petitioned the High Court in December 2025, claiming the government is trying to 'bypass' the core studies obligation. The High Court issued an interim order freezing the transfer of coalition funds to Haredi educational institutions not under supervision. During the hearing, the judges sharply criticized the state, with Justice Yael Wilner saying it constitutes 'unlawful conduct'. The state's representative, Attorney Neta Oren, admitted that most funds were transferred before receiving the required approvals.
