As temperatures rise: Two women bitten by snakes, one in serious condition

Two women were bitten by snakes in separate incidents today. A 48-year-old woman was bitten in Rishon LeZion and her condition was initially defined as serious, later upgraded to mild. A 26-year-old woman was bitten in Majd al-Krum and her condition is mild and stable. MDA and the Galilee Medical Center treated the victims.

Two women were bitten by snakes today (Wednesday) in two separate incidents in Israel. A 48-year-old woman was bitten on the street of the Volcani Institute in Rishon LeZion during her work. MDA teams that were called to the scene provided her with initial treatment and evacuated her to Shamir-Asaf Harofeh Hospital in serious but stable condition, with signs of bites on her lower limbs. Later, the hospital updated that her condition is now defined as mild. MDA paramedic Tehila Cohen said the woman was conscious and received medical treatment including medication. Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman, a resident of Majd al-Krum, was bitten by a snake near her home and was brought to the Galilee Medical Center. She was hospitalized in the general intensive care unit, her condition is mild and stable, and she is fully conscious. Dr. Khaled Atallah, director of the Emergency Department at the Galilee Medical Center, emphasized that during this season the activity of venomous reptiles increases and gave instructions for action in case of a bite: calm the victim, complete rest, prevent movement of the bitten limb, rapid evacuation to the hospital, and photograph the snake from a safe distance. He warned against cutting the bite site, sucking venom, applying tourniquets, or attempting to capture the snake.
