Araghchi: 'Israel' is the biggest obstacle to the memorandum of understanding with the United States

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that 'Israel' represents the biggest obstacle to implementing the memorandum of understanding signed between his country and the United States. This came in a speech published by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Telegram on Tuesday, adding that Washington began violating the understanding less than two weeks after it was concluded. He stressed that the diplomatic success was a victory for the Iranian people as a result of resistance during the war. Washington and Tehran signed the memorandum of understanding on June 18 regarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that 'Israel' represents the biggest obstacle to implementing the memorandum of understanding signed between his country and the United States of America. This came in a speech he delivered during his participation in the 39th meeting of heads of education directorates across the country, published by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on its Telegram app on Tuesday. Araghchi added that the United States began violating the understanding less than two weeks after it was concluded, because it aligns with Iran's interests. He continued, saying: "'Israel' is the biggest opponent and obstacle to implementing this understanding." Araghchi stressed that the diplomatic success in reaching the memorandum of understanding is not due to him personally or to the Foreign Ministry, adding: "This was a victory for the Iranian people. It was the result of the resistance shown during the war that forced the enemy to accept Iran's demands." On June 18, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as a prelude to reaching a final agreement, but its implementation stalled due to disagreements over the strait's security. The United States and 'Israel' began attacks on Iran on February 28, and Tehran responded by targeting 'Israel' and American sites in the region, before reaching a ceasefire agreement last April. Between July 8 and 24, the United States resumed attacks on Iran, and Tehran responded by targeting American military facilities and equipment in Arab countries, before resuming talks on safe corridors for ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
