Arab Summit Meeting: Regional Countries Want to Change the Rules of the Game in Jerusalem

Jordan is hosting a gathering of Arab and Islamic countries in an attempt to formulate a unified position on Jerusalem, the Temple Mount, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank. According to a statement from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, participants will discuss the situation of holy sites sacred to Islam and Christianity, aiming to reach a common stance against escalating and illegal Israeli measures directed at Jerusalem's identity and its holy places. Jordanian media emphasized that the committee was established to promote political activity vis-à-vis influential countries and international institutions. The meeting takes place against the backdrop of Amman's efforts to build international support for preserving the historical and legal status quo on the Temple Mount. In a report by Al-Mamlaka channel, the joint position recently presented by al-Safadi and Fidan was mentioned, according to which the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entirety, is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims. The two warned that attempts to change the existing status could ignite the situation in the West Bank and deepen the conflict. Jordan is expected to demand that participants translate condemnations into practical steps on the international stage. Fidan is expected to warn against settler violence, demolition of Palestinian homes, and harm to Christian institutions. According to the Turkish report, he may also attack the decision of countries to move their embassies to Jerusalem, arguing that the move harms the city's international status and the prospects for a political settlement. Ankara wants the gathering to exert increased pressure on the Israeli government and link the implementation of the Gaza framework to developments in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
