Arab League condemns storming of UNRWA's Qalandia center
The Arab League condemned the Israeli occupation forces' storming of the UNRWA Qalandia training center for the second time in a month, calling it a violation of international law and the sanctity of the United Nations. It called on the international community to act to protect the agency.
The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, condemned the storming of the UNRWA Qalandia training center by Israeli occupation forces accompanied by officials from the occupation municipality in Jerusalem, for the second time in less than a month. The League considered this a flagrant violation of international law and the sanctity of UN facilities, noting that the forces detained students and workers inside the center during the raid. Ambassador Faid Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, affirmed that the storming constitutes a grave breach of the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, and a violation of the occupation's obligations under international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention. He explained that the attack is part of a systematic policy aimed at undermining UNRWA's work and reducing its role, depriving Palestinian refugees of their basic rights. He noted that the 2025 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice affirmed the occupation's obligation to facilitate UNRWA's work. The League called on the international community, the United Nations, and the Security Council to take urgent action to protect UNRWA facilities and staff, and to hold the occupation accountable for its violations.
