Anti-Semitism or Extortion – Canada Investigates Attack (PHOTO)

In Toronto, Canada's largest metropolis, attacks were carried out on two branches of the well-known Jewish bakery chain Kiva's Bagel Bar, considered one of the most popular in the province of Ontario. The perpetrators shot at one bakery and damaged the window of another. At the first location, bullet marks were found on the entrance and window glass; at the second, window damage without signs of firearms. The investigation is being conducted by two agencies: the hate crimes unit and the joint armed crimes task force, indicating ambiguity in classification—anti-Semitism or extortion. Representatives of the Jewish community link the incident to a growing wave of attacks on Jewish sites: according to the Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs, 27 violent incidents against community members were recorded in Canada in the first seven months of 2026. Kiva's Bagel Bar bakeries were founded in 1979, have three locations, and are famous for traditional bagels, challah, latkes, and other dishes. Final conclusions will be made upon completion of the investigation.
