Another protest in Habima Square: demonstration demanding a state commission of inquiry

Protest organizations are holding a demonstration this evening (Saturday) in Habima Square in Tel Aviv, centered on the demand to establish a state commission of inquiry to investigate the events of October 7, along with a call for equality in the burden. The organizers said the demonstration takes place against the backdrop of recent developments in the public and legal arena, and as part of the ongoing struggle over issues of governance, public accountability, and preserving democratic values. According to the organizers, the demonstration comes days after the High Court of Justice issued a temporary order in a petition filed by the Hiddush association, which for now delayed the transfer of hundreds of millions of shekels from coalition funds. The organizers further claimed that at a time when the tenure of the government and the Knesset is nearing its end, increased public vigilance and adherence to democratic rules of the game are required. In their statement, the Movement for Quality of Government and protest organizations called on the public to 'stand guard' and be prepared, in their words, for any attempt to harm the purity of elections, misuse public resources, or sabotage the democratic rules of the game. Among the speakers at the demonstration will be Ruby and Hagit Chen, parents of Staff Sgt. Itai Chen, who fell in battle on October 7 and was abducted, and whose body was returned to Israel after 760 days. Also expected to speak are Prof. Uzi Arad, former head of the National Security Council and national security adviser to the prime minister; retired Superintendent David Tsur, former Tel Aviv district commander, Border Police commander, and Yamam commander; and attorney Yael Bloch, head of the litigation department at the Movement for Quality of Government.
