Another Morning of Fire in Russia: Massive Kyiv Attack, at Least 12 Dead in the 'Oil City'

This morning, Russian authorities reported a massive Ukrainian drone attack that killed at least 12 people and wounded 39 in the city of Nizhnekamsk in Tatarstan. The city, located about 1,200 km from the Ukrainian border, is considered a major center of Russia's oil industry, with two refineries and a petrochemical plant. One of the refineries, which produced 2.7 million tons of gasoline and 8.5 million tons of diesel in 2024, was already attacked last June. Tatarstan's governor, Rustam Minnikhanov, said the attack targeted industrial and civilian facilities. The Defense Ministry in Moscow said it intercepted 456 drones over 15 regions and Crimea. In Belgorod region, a woman was killed by a drone strike on her home. Ukraine continues its policy of 'bringing the war home' to Russians, as Zelensky put it. Russia also attacked: in Kharkiv, five were killed in an artillery barrage, and in Kherson, a man was killed by a drone strike on a taxi. The World Health Organization reported that its warehouse in the Dnipro area was attacked twice within 24 hours, with damage to emergency equipment worth $500,000.
