The race was seen as another setback for AIPAC, which had backed the 14-term congressman. However, Israel was not a central issue in the contest, as both leading candidates held traditionally pro-Israel positions. Bronin, a former Hartford mayor and Obama administration official, campaigned on affordability and new leadership. Larson defended his vote for US military aid to Israel, while Bronin opposed offensive aid but supported defensive systems. Bronin outraised Larson, receiving $3.1 million to Larson's $2.7 million. Larson received about $120,000 in AIPAC-linked donations. Bronin will now face Republican Amy Chai in the general election.
