The Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court today (Wednesday) extended by 12 days the detention of Ahmed al-Jarub, a 23-year-old from Ramla, suspected of murdering lawyer Arbel Feldman. Police requested a 15-day extension and attribute to him offenses of premeditated murder, destruction of evidence, and obstruction of legal proceedings. During the hearing, a police representative said the suspect is the main suspect in the murder. According to him, after the shooting, he fled the scene and later turned himself in at a police station in another city. He also noted that since his surrender, findings have been collected that strengthen the suspicion against him, and some of the evidence has already been presented to him during the investigation. The police representative added that during his interrogation, the suspect remained silent and repeatedly said: "I'm psychiatric." During the hearing, Judge Eyal Cohen turned to the suspect and asked him: "Did you eat? Did you drink?" The suspect replied: "Only he is good to me," pointing to one of the police representatives in the courtroom. He then added: "Everyone else beats me, curses me, talks to me stinky, and doesn't give me cigarettes." It also emerged that at the request of his defense attorney, Adv. Oren Sasson, the suspect underwent a preliminary psychiatric examination yesterday, after which he was determined fit for detention. Later, Adv. Sasson asked to clarify whether the suspect confessed to the murder already at the Ashdod police station. The police representative refused to answer the question publicly and passed his answer to the court in writing. The defense attorney attacked the charge of premeditated murder attributed to his client, claiming the suspect is mentally unstable and undiagnosed. The police representative responded that the suspect arrived equipped with an unlicensed gun. Adv. Sasson added that according to his family members, the suspect has hardly left his home in the past three years, is diagnosed as autistic, and told them: "If you put anyone else with me in a cell, I will murder him." He asked to refer the suspect for a full psychiatric evaluation and to release him to detention in a psychiatric ward. At the end of the hearing, the court partially accepted the police request and extended his detention by 12 days.
