A joint US-Saudi attack on eastern Iraq has caused casualties among pro-Iranian formations. Pro-Iranian militias, including the umbrella group Al-Hashd al-Shaabi, reported at least 20 dead and 32 wounded, calling the figures preliminary. The strikes targeted group headquarters in seven provinces: Baghdad, Wasit, Nineveh, Basra, Kirkuk, Karbala, and Diyala. Material damage to headquarters, vehicles, and military equipment was reported. US Central Command confirmed the operation was targeted and conducted jointly with Saudi forces. Targets included weapons depots and logistics bases. The Pentagon explained the attack was a response to over 30 drone attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the past 72 hours, as well as over 600 attacks on US citizens and facilities between February and April 2026. The US demanded the IRGC cease attacks to avoid further military responses.
