Since the ceasefire, Iran has demanded that vessels pass through the Strait of Hormuz only on the route it defined, and when some chose an alternative route near Oman's coast, it attacked some of them, leading to escalation with the US. US President Donald Trump recently threatened that if the practice continues, for every ship attacked in Hormuz, a bridge or power plant in Iran, including in Tehran, will be destroyed. Iran claims the tanker was damaged by a naval mine and not by a direct attack, and it is unclear how Trump will act now.
