After the success of the doctors' aliyah: new national plan to encourage teacher immigration to Israel
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, in partnership with Nefesh B'Nefesh, have announced a new national plan to encourage the immigration of teachers from North America, following the success of a similar program for doctors. The plan will identify hundreds of teachers, help remove barriers, and recognize degrees before aliyah, and will include job fairs and webinars. It aims to address the shortage of teachers in English, mathematics, science, and language.
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, in partnership with the organization Nefesh B'Nefesh, announced today (Wednesday) a new national plan to encourage the immigration of teachers from North America, from the US and Canada, to integrate them into the education system in Israel. The plan comes following the success of a similar program to encourage the immigration of doctors, which was launched in 2024 and brought over 1,000 doctors to Israel. It is intended to address the growing shortage of teachers, especially in English, mathematics, science, and language. As part of the plan, which is expected to get underway in the coming year, hundreds of teachers in the process of aliyah will be identified and placed according to the needs of the system, their training, and their experience. The plan will accompany candidates from the stage of considering aliyah until their integration into schools, help remove bureaucratic barriers, and allow recognition of certificates and degrees before aliyah. During the coming year, job fairs, webinars, and informational meetings will be held in North America, and a database of candidates and positions will be established. Minister Ofir Sofer said that aliyah is a growth engine, and Education Minister Yoav Kisch emphasized the commitment to addressing the teacher shortage. Nefesh B'Nefesh chairman Tony Gelbart noted that the model proven with doctors can be applied to other fields.
