The official organ of Agudat Yisrael of the Gur Hasidic dynasty announced this morning (Monday) formally that MK Yitzhak Goldknopf will continue in his role in the next term. The announcement comes after an initial report by i24NEWS last night, according to which the Rebbe of Gur told a confidant that Goldknopf would continue as the Gur representative in the next Knesset. Goldknopf expressed his "heartfelt feelings for the trust he received and for the privilege that falls to his lot to continue serving as a representative for the Haredi public." He described the outgoing term as "difficult for the Haredi public and not remembered as such in the past," and added that "Torah scholars are subjected to a most cruel persecution campaign." Goldknopf noted that he acted in complete obedience to the instructions of the great Torah sages, and immediately left the government and coalition on their orders. American philanthropist Shlomo Vardiger, a confidant of the Rebbe of Gur, heard from the Rebbe that one of the main reasons for the decision is that Goldknopf is an 'obedient' person. However, the Rebbe did not give a formal ruling on the matter, and the words were said to Vardiger, who is visiting the country and even met on Friday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, against the backdrop of tensions between Netanyahu and the Gur Hasidic dynasty.
