The world's largest mobile Israeli flag, towering at about 40 meters high, was removed from Kfar Shmaryahu due to a legal dispute with the Herzliya Local Planning and Building Committee, and has been re-hoisted at Haifa Port. The flag, permanently stationed at the Flag House in Kfar Shmaryahu, has been submitted as a candidate for the Guinness Book of World Records and is expected to receive official recognition as the largest mobile flag in the world. Bringing the flag to Haifa was made possible through cooperation between Haifa Municipality, Haifa Port, and its owner Boaz Hayon. The flag was placed near the Palmer Gate, at a point visible from many areas of the city, Haifa Bay, and the sea. Mayor Yona Yahav noted that there is something symbolic and moving about the Israeli flag flying over Haifa Port on the eve of the new year, and that the city has known difficult days but remained upright and strong. Port President Sumit Chauhan and Port CEO David Cohen emphasized the connection between the port and the city, as the flag is hoisted a short distance from where David Ben-Gurion raised the flag at the first Israeli port about 78 years ago.
