After the approval of the Mahash law, which subordinates the police department to the Ministry of Justice, the leading candidate for the position of head of Mahash is Royi Kahlon, former acting Civil Service Commissioner. Kahlon is under disciplinary investigation for allegedly padding his resume to qualify for civil service positions. His name was previously mentioned, and the government feared appointing him due to the investigation that could lead to his disqualification. Despite this, he is now considered the leading candidate due to a lack of alternatives, as the candidates who have applied so far are not favored by Justice Minister Levin, who controls the committee. Therefore, the application deadline was extended to August 16. It appears that prominent figures have been deterred from applying for the position, which is considered political and legally controversial. If no other candidates are found, Kahlon may be appointed head of Mahash despite the high likelihood of being disqualified. In January, attorney Royi Kahlon was appointed acting Civil Service Commissioner despite opposition from Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara. It was revealed on Kan 11 evening news that Kahlon stated in his resume that he "indirectly managed 50 employees," but in fact, in his last position at the State Attorney's Office, he served as a team leader with direct responsibility for only five to ten employees. Therefore, as part of the appointment process, a clarification procedure was conducted. It was agreed that the appointment would be temporary and could not be extended. In February, Kahlon was questioned under warning in a disciplinary proceeding by the Ministry of Justice regarding suspicions about his resume.
