The family had returned from a drive during which the boy fell asleep; they are suspected of leaving him in the vehicle. The father realized his son was missing about two hours later, found him unconscious, and called Magen David Adom (MDA). MDA medics performed advanced resuscitation, but the boy was pronounced dead at Shamir Medical Center. United Hatzalah warned that this can happen to loving, responsible parents and urged drivers to 'stop for one second' and check the back seat. According to Beterem, Safe Kids Israel, 23 children died in such incidents between 2021 and 2025, with 53 additional non-fatal cases and 1,513 rescues. Police opened an investigation into the circumstances.
