After a Night Without US Strikes, Iran Claims: We Attacked a US Base in Kuwait

The Iranian military claims it attacked American military targets with drones this morning at Ahmed al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait, in response to the "brutal attack" on Qeshm Island. The US Central Command did not respond, and Kuwait did not confirm. No US strikes were recorded overnight.

The Iranian military claimed this morning (Friday) that it attacked US military targets in Kuwait with drones. According to the military's statement, the strikes targeted "shelters for fighter jets, satellite communication systems, and equipment storage facilities at Ahmed al-Jaber Air Base." The US Central Command (CENTCOM) did not respond to the claims, and no US strikes were recorded overnight. Kuwaiti state media have also not yet confirmed the Iranian attack. In Tehran, the operation was described as retaliation for "the recent aggression against us by the terrorist American army and its brutal attack on a settlement on Qeshm Island." According to reports yesterday in Iranian media, three members of one family were killed in the strikes on the island, located in the Strait of Hormuz. The attack on Qeshm Island was part of a wave of US strikes on Wednesday night into Thursday, when the US struck Iran for the first time in six days. The US Central Command said it was a "powerful response to Iran's attempts to attack American forces stationed in the Middle East." Shortly after, in the morning hours, Iran launched five missiles at Jordan, which said all were intercepted. Meanwhile, Pakistan, which mediates between Washington and Tehran, reports that the parties are conducting negotiations. Pakistan stated it is doing "everything in its power to return all parties to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding," signed in mid-June. Additionally, due to the fact that vessels still rarely pass through the Strait of Hormuz, the Saudi Defense Ministry announced yesterday that 14 countries supported the kingdom's proposal to establish a "maritime defense alliance" to protect international shipping lanes and global trade.
