A vigil in Beirut.. calling for urgent international action to save Palestinian prisoners

Rafat Murra, the head of Hamas's mass mobilization in Lebanon, called on the UN and international organizations to urgently intervene to save approximately ten thousand Palestinian detainees in occupation prisons, during a sit-in in front of the Red Cross headquarters in Beirut. Representatives of Palestinian factions and civil institutions participated in the sit-in, and participants denounced what they described as a policy of slow killing against the prisoners.

Rafat Murra, the head of Hamas's mass mobilization in Lebanon, called on the United Nations and international and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene to save approximately ten thousand Palestinian detainees in Israeli occupation prisons. This came during a sit-in organized by Hamas's mass mobilization on Thursday in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross headquarters in Beirut, with the participation of representatives of Palestinian factions, civil and social institutions, as well as activists in the field of prisoner advocacy. Murra said that the Israeli government, in his description, adopts a policy of 'slow killing' against the prisoners, through practices including torture, mistreatment, and deprivation of food and medicine, considering that these practices constitute a violation of international laws and conventions. Murra called for holding Israeli officials accountable for violations against prisoners. Meanwhile, Khalidiya Abu Bakra, coordinator of the Samidoun network for prisoner advocacy in Spain, denounced what she described as the terrorist behavior of Benjamin Netanyahu's government towards the prisoners, and called for urgent international intervention. Released prisoner Anwar Yassin described the prisoners' conditions as catastrophic, saying they are subjected to what he described as 'organized terror'. Representatives of factions and civil institutions participated in the sit-in, and a memorandum was handed over to the Red Cross. This move comes amid a continued rise in the number of Palestinian detainees, with Palestinian human rights institutions indicating that the number of prisoners has exceeded ten thousand.
