A Rare Red Heifer Born in the Jordan Valley: 'A Miracle After a Miracle'

A rare and extraordinary event recently stirred the large dairy farm in the cooperative moshav Shadmot Mehola in the north. A red heifer was born at the farm, which usually supplies milk to the Tnuva company and raises Holstein cows with classic black-and-white colors. The moshav does not recall such a calving. The excitement began when one of the workers burst into the dining room during breakfast and announced in amazement the birth of a calf entirely reddish-brown in color. The farm manager noted that while in the Golan, brown shades are more common in beef breeds, in a dairy farm, the birth of a red cow without any blemish is truly a miracle. The newborn calf has already sparked considerable halachic interest. The moshav's rabbi contacted the Temple Institute, and a delegation of about 20 rabbis and professionals arrived, examined the calf, and found it currently kosher. According to sources, the red heifer is considered a complex commandment whose main purpose is purifying those defiled by contact with the dead through its ashes. The halachic criteria are very strict, requiring the cow to be entirely red, without two hairs of another color, without any blemish, and never used for work. The moshav views this birth as a link in the historical chain, as according to tradition, only nine red heifers have been sacrificed since the days of Moses. The excitement on the farm is especially great given the immediate connection residents made to another miracle that occurred in the barn not long ago, when an Iranian missile fell in the heart of the farm. The missile landed among the cows but did not explode, remained embedded in the ground, and caused no casualties or property damage. Now, with the birth of the red calf, the moshav feels this is a direct continuation of heavenly protection. To preserve the sanctity and kosher status of the calf, it was decided to raise it in a separate enclosure under strict supervision. The farm manager instructed workers that it is forbidden to lean on it or use it for any purpose, and they even avoid marking it with a regular ear tag or giving vaccinations that could create a blemish that would disqualify it in the future, in order to preserve this rare phenomenon.
