A New Trump Card: How Ukraine Changed Tactics in the War with Russia

Ukraine has shifted its war tactics against Russia, moving from holding territory to long-range strikes on the enemy's rear. According to ACLED, attacks in July tripled compared to the beginning of the year. This gives Kyiv an argument for securing US support, including air defense systems and financial aid. Experts warn of the strategy's limitations.

Nearly two years after the start of the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region, Ukraine has changed its tactics: instead of holding territory, it is focusing on systematically exhausting the enemy in its rear. According to ACLED, in July alone, the Defense Forces carried out three times more strikes on Russian territory than at the beginning of the year. This allows avoiding risks to personnel while inflicting damage on industrial and military infrastructure. The new strategy also strengthens Kyiv's diplomatic position ahead of talks with the US: the successes of the long-range program serve as an argument for obtaining air defense systems (including Patriot) and expanding financial aid. However, experts warn that contactless warfare is not a panacea: it does not replace infantry, does not protect the sky from ballistic missiles, and does not prevent the influx of Russian forces. Nevertheless, the combination of technological attacks and diplomacy gives Ukraine a new trump card to increase support from international partners.
