"A disaster upon a disaster": Woman used egg donation - and discovered her daughter belongs to a different donor

A woman who gave birth to a baby girl through egg donation claims she discovered that the egg from which her daughter was born belongs to a different donor, whom she did not choose. The suspicion arose months after the birth, and a test conducted by the mother revealed that the donor's identity does not match the one she selected. The company that supplied the eggs, one of the largest in Israel, is under investigation. The lawyer representing the mother called on the Ministry of Health to conduct actual supervision.

A woman who gave birth to a baby girl through egg donation claims she discovered that the egg from which her daughter was born belongs to a different donor, whom she did not choose, did not know, and did not approve. The couple needed an egg donation; the woman selected a donor based on data presented to her, embryos were created, and she became pregnant. About two years ago, the baby was born. In recent months, the mother became suspicious, and a test she conducted revealed that the baby was born from a different donor's egg. The matter was referred to the company that supplied the eggs, one of the largest in Israel, which works with many hospitals. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated. Attorney Galit Karner, representing the mother, stated: "A disaster upon a disaster - and the end is not in sight." She called on the Ministry of Health to conduct actual supervision, not investigative committees. According to her, she receives dozens of inquiries from women concerned about the identity of their children. The case joins a series of unusual incidents in the fertility field, including a suspected error with donor sperm at Assuta Ramat HaHayal.
