A Decade After the Brutal Murder: Compensation for Tehila Nagar's Family Over Investigation Failures

Nearly a decade after the murder of Tehila Nagar in 2016, the state will pay her family 140,000 shekels as part of a settlement agreement over investigation failures. Judge Avim Barkai of the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court gave the agreement the force of a judgment. Her partner, Raed Roshroush, was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 19 years in prison instead of life imprisonment due to the failures.

Judge Avim Barkai of the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court gave the settlement agreement the force of a judgment. Tehila, a 31-year-old kibbutz member from Ginosar, was murdered in 2016 by her partner Raed Roshroush. The original indictment described how he strangled her, tied her up, and caused bleeding, then hurled a 30-kilogram curbstone at her head, crushing her skull. Due to serious failures in the investigation, the prosecution reached a plea deal, and Roshroush was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 19 years in prison instead of life imprisonment. The family, through the Legal Aid and attorney Galit Lovetsky, sued the state. Her father, Yigal Nagar, said the amount would be dedicated to renovating a soldiers' and youth club to be named FAME, in her memory.
