Chinese mukbang star 'Gan Fan Yingying', a resident of Liaocheng in Shandong province, died at age 24. Her parents published a mourning announcement confirming her death. In her last video, posted on August 14, Chen Ziyi said she was hospitalized after repeatedly eating during live broadcasts, which caused a drop in her potassium levels. She said her potassium level had previously dropped to 2.3 mmol/L, and during emergency treatment it stood at about 2.5. Chen said she was aware that the recurring problem of low potassium levels was related to her work. 'Making money is important, but your health must always come first,' she told viewers. Chen had over one million followers and uploaded 169 videos. In another video, she said she ate between 60 and 70 eggs in one broadcast during a sales promotion. She described an extreme routine of eating in front of the camera, vomiting immediately afterward, and returning to eat, which led to repeated hospitalizations. Her parents did not release the official cause of death, but the Chinese news site Sing Tao Headlines reported assessments of cardiac arrest caused by prolonged low potassium levels.
