The petition, submitted by families of victims, calls Madani an 'unwanted guest' and lists reasons: his refusal to condemn the slogan 'Globalize the Intifada', his appearance alongside Imam Siraj Wahhaj, his appointment of Ramzi Kassem as chief legal advisor, and his support for candidates who downplayed the severity of 9/11. The organization 'September 11 Families for Tomorrow's Peace', affiliated with the Tides Center, issued a sharp statement against the petition, accusing its authors of racism and Islamophobia. Giovanni Galante, who lost his wife Grace in the attack, rejected the claims and emphasized: 'This has nothing to do with Islam.' Councilwoman Joann Ariola (Republican) backed the signatories. The memorial museum clarified that the ceremony is kept out of politics. The mayor's spokesperson said Madani intends to attend the ceremony.
