6 Years Later: Verdict in Case of Balfour Protest Activist vs. Netanyahu Supporter

The court ruled in the case against Yishai Hadas, a prominent activist in the Balfour protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, six years after a complaint was filed against him for threats and assault during a demonstration. The judge acquitted Hadas of assaulting Rami Ben Yehuda and conduct likely to breach the peace, but convicted him of attempted intentional damage to property and threats. According to the amended indictment, Hadas threw a speaker belonging to a Netanyahu supporter onto the road intending to cause damage, and in another incident told the complainant: "He wants me to break his leg, like his friend's." The judge ruled that the evidence does not allow determining beyond a reasonable doubt that Hadas attacked the complainant, but that throwing the speaker and the threat constitute criminal offenses. A sentencing hearing will take place in about three months.
