Aram Ali, spokesperson for the Sulaymaniyah Civil Defense Directorate, said according to the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) that a large fire broke out in a complex for petroleum derivatives in the Tanjaro area, noting that civil defense teams headed to the scene to work on controlling and extinguishing it. Later, Sulaymaniyah Deputy Governor Shaho Othman announced full control over the fire, reassuring citizens that there was no impact on fuel quantities supplied in the province and no shortage. Meanwhile, Sulaymaniyah Civil Defense Director Brigadier Ari Mohammed said the firefighting operation took 4 hours and 20 minutes, with the participation of all civil defense teams and capabilities in the city. He added that 4 firefighters sustained various injuries and received treatment at the scene. According to Shafaq News Agency, the fire resulted in about 30 injuries with varying burns, mostly workers and site crews, with most receiving necessary first aid and leaving hospitals, while an Iranian worker remained under medical care due to the severity of his injury. The fire broke out after midnight, accompanied by sounds of explosions in tanks containing flammable materials, while security forces imposed a cordon around the area and diverted traffic away from the scene.
