The Central-Lod District Court today (Wednesday) sentenced Barakat Abu Asa (23) from Tel Sheva to 21 years in prison for raping a Gedera resident in front of her two-year-old son. The incident occurred in early 2023, when Abu Asa broke into the home of the woman in her 30s, tied her with duct tape, threatened to kill her, and raped her in front of her crying son. He then removed the toddler from the room, raped her again, and took a beer bottle from the kitchen. The complainant's four-year-old son helped her free herself using a knife, and Abu Asa fled. Judges Ruth Lorch, Ami Kobu, and Dvora Atar emphasized the severity of the acts, the abuse of children, and the courage of the complainant who testified in court. Alongside the prison term, compensation of 200,000 shekels was ordered. Abu Asa denied the allegations, but his version was rejected based on DNA evidence and cell phone location data.
