18-year-old rode scooter without license, hit two children - and fled

An 18-year-old from Bir al-Maksur, who never obtained a driver's license, was arrested last Monday on suspicion of riding a T-MAX scooter into a playground, hitting two 8-year-old children, injuring them, and fleeing the scene. This was reported today (Thursday) to Walla. The investigation was conducted by the Traffic Division of the Galilee District Police, under the command of Chief Inspector Roni Khinawi. The incident occurred on the evening of June 30. According to the suspicion, the suspect entered the park with the scooter in a reckless and life-threatening manner, hitting a boy and a girl while they were playing. The injured girl is still in rehabilitation and uses a wheelchair. Immediately after the collision, he fled the scene and hid the scooter in a building belonging to a relative. Police raided the suspect's home and arrested him, along with his 22-year-old relative, on suspicion of helping him hide the vehicle. During their arrest, parts of a disassembled scooter were found, apparently to conceal evidence, as well as ammunition. Today, the two were brought to a hearing at the Haifa Magistrate's Court for the police request to extend their detention, and the court decided to extend it until Sunday. Chief Inspector Roni Khinawi said: "Galilee District officers will continue to carry out determined enforcement with an emphasis on two-wheeled vehicles and micro-mobility, and conduct thorough investigations even against those who disrupt scenes and conceal evidence to escape the law, with the aim of exhausting the full severity of the law against them."
