150 shekels for parking at the beach: The city in the center that wants to keep out outsiders on weekends
Deputy Mayor of Rishon LeZion, Idan Mizrahi, submitted a proposal to charge outsiders 150 shekels per day for parking at the city's beaches on Fridays and Saturdays, aiming to ease congestion and keep the beach for city residents. The city council will discuss the proposal in September.
Deputy Mayor of Rishon LeZion, Idan Mizrahi, submitted a proposal to the city council to charge outsiders 150 shekels per day for parking at the city's beaches on Fridays and Saturdays. The proposal aims to ease the heavy congestion on weekends, when parking lots fill up as early as the morning hours. Mizrahi, who comes from the party of Mayor Raz Kinstlich, explained that the goal is to return the beach to Rishon LeZion residents, who will continue to enjoy free parking. According to him, the beach is a limited municipal resource and priority should be given to city residents. The proposal is expected to gain support in the city council, but may face opposition from environmental organizations who argue that the beach is a public resource that does not belong to one city. Additionally, public transportation does not operate on Saturdays, so restricting parking could prevent outsiders from reaching the beach.
