The Northern District Prosecutor's Office today (Thursday) filed a serious indictment at the Nazareth District Youth Court against two brothers, aged 15 and 16, residents of Yafia, for a particularly violent assault at a soccer field in the town. The older brother, aged 16, is charged with attempted murder. According to the indictment, the two arrived at the field pre-equipped with a commando knife, brass knuckles, and tear gas, just days after a previous confrontation that ended with a handshake. During the assault, one of them struck the 14-year-old boy in the head with brass knuckles, while his brother sprayed tear gas at him and at other boys who tried to defend him. After the boy fell to the ground, one of the defendants stabbed him three times—in the neck and back. The boy was evacuated to the hospital sedated and ventilated, and today, after lengthy rehabilitation, he suffers from paralysis in his left side and uses a wheelchair. The two brothers fled and hid for about two weeks, until they turned themselves in to the police. The indictment also charges them with additional offenses of aggravated assault, obstruction of justice, and weapons possession.
