14-year-old suspected of extorting minors via TikTok: "Pay up or I'll hurt you"

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of extorting minors through threats on the social network TikTok. According to the suspicion, he contacted minors, offered them "protection" in exchange for payment, and threatened to physically harm them if they did not comply with his demands. Two minors, fearing the threats, transferred money to him on several occasions, but even after they paid, the demands did not stop – he continued to demand additional sums of money and even new clothing items. The affair was uncovered after the parents of one of the minors noticed the suspicious correspondence on their son's phone and came with him to the police station to file a complaint. Investigators from the Youth Department at the Tel Aviv South station opened an investigation and located another minor who fell victim to the extortion. The suspect was arrested on August 19 and his detention was extended from time to time. Today, the Youth Prosecution Unit of the Tel Aviv District filed a prosecutor's statement against him, and police noted that an indictment is expected to be filed in the coming days.
